The concept of travelling has changed from “seeking new land” like Christopher Columbus to now, “Instagramming for my followers”. Instagram is one of the easiest and most immediate ways to share pictures with everyone. People travel far and wide to find interesting spots to Singapore. No matter how small or boring a country is, there will always be beautiful spots for you to Instagram.
Cafes are one of the favourites spots for Instagramers because of the unique concepts and designs. However, cafes do charge quite a sum of their machine-prepared coffee and microwave-made food. It isn’t worth it to pay that amount just for a good picture. Moreover, when you are travelling, you wouldn’t want to spend all your money café-hopping. So here are 10 FREE and beautiful Instagram spots for you to take pictures and Instagram. And the best part? These places are not insanely overrated!
Little India Colourful Wall
This is my favourite place in Little India. Colour is my favourite thing after sunsets so you can say I’m very obsessed with this place. It’s also very accessible from Little India MRT Station. Read the full story here.
Library @ Orchard
I can spend the whole day here, just reading books. However it’s not just about the range of books they have here, the interior design and concept are just too lovely. There’s a sliding ladder that allows you to climb up to find your favourite books. It makes everything feel so 19th century, yet at the same time so sleek and modern.
Gardens by the Bay
Due to the fact that Singapore always has great weather, the sunlight always looks good in Gardens by the Bay. Not only it’s a perfect place to take really great pictures for Instagram, it’s also my favourite post for picnics.
Marina Bay Waterfront
Waterfronts are one of my favourite chilling spots all around the world. There’s Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong, Han gang in South Korea and Li River in Guilin. The background of Marina Bay Sands on the left and financial centre on the right makes every angle beautiful.
#TrevellersTip: Stand in the middle and get someone to take a panorama from Marina Bay Sands to the financial centre! The picture looks amazing, especially with you in it.
Haji Lane is known for their graffiti walls and beautiful concept design everywhere. It’s definitely a hipster area. Similar areas include Kreuzberg in Berlin and Star Street in Hong Kong! This is also a place with lots of beautiful Middle Eastern design and architecture; definitely a lovely place for pictures.
There’s also this lovely Victorian-style place that I discovered at Park View Square.
Without a doubt, Sentosa cannot be missed out. The warm sun, palm trees and the beach. Can it get any better? Well yes, it can! It’s more than bikini-clad babes, hunks in solid abs and beach bars. There’s also Universal Studios Singapore, Sentosa Cove and the huge Merlion: Singapore’s mascot.
If you’re looking for a more hipster place yet unknown, Gillman Barracks is the place. There are many beautiful exhibitions every week with lots of space to practice your creativity and angles for Instagram.
Bonus: There’s a Timbre there with the hipster-like interior design.
Fort Canning Park
Singapore is so green that we have parks everywhere. In the Orchard area alone, we have Istana Park, Mount Emily Park and Fort Canning Park. Fort Canning Park stretches all the way from Clark Quay to Dhoby Ghaut! There are so many spots to Instagram. Plus: There are swings in one part of the park, where you can totally sit to chill for hours.
Clarke Quay Colourful Windows
Another rainbow area would be the iconic Clarke Quay MICA Building. Did you know it used to be the old police station? It is now an art building with galleries showcasing visual arts and art events. The rainbow windows are just too beautiful that I cannot keep my eyes off them!
Soon to be a UNESCO site, Botanic Gardens is one of the must-go if you’re in Singapore. Go there for the swans in the swan lake, picnic and dates, or even the Bandstand (a hut) because they certainly do look good in pictures. There are so many areas to explore in Botanic Gardens for a good picture. PS: there are many swings available too! My favourite thing to do there would be to have a beer, a good book and a nice shady spot to spend the afternoon!
Singapore is really a beautiful place with many hidden gems. You just have to make a little more effort to explore and find these gems. The Instagramming culture has evolved and many people are travelling further to take nicer pictures. Tag @Trevellers in your Instagram for a chance to get featured!
