N Seoul Tower

Namsan Tower is located at the top of Mt. Namsan. In fact, it is right in the middle of the city. The exact middle point is near the bus stop on on the hill. Upon arriving by bus, you will need to hike up a steep little road before arriving at the Namsan Tower.

What is Namsan Tower (N Seoul Tower)

Namsan Tower is known for many things: the cable car ride, the nice trekking at Namsan Park, the great aerial view of the city, museums and café.  At a height of almost 240m, the tower has an onservatory deck that offers an amazing view of the city. The iconic letter “N” was the result of the remodeling of the tower in 2005. Since then, the place is known as N Seoul Tower, with beautiful bright lights at night.

I Hate Namsan Tower Because

Love lock on N Seoul Tower
Love lock on N Seoul Tower

I am sure you know about the love lock and its spread around the world. A little back story: it started in France, where lovers ‘lock’ their love by writing their names on a lock and locking it on Pont des Arts bridge and throwing the key into the seine river. This symbolizes that their love will be locked together forever. So this love lock fever spread all across the world.

Korea is no exception. On Namsan Tower, you will see that the entire bridge is filled with love locks. In fact, there are 3 huge “Christmas Tree” like structure with love locks all over the place. Not only that, you see cute couples there, doing their couple things. Because I was there alone, it felt so horrible. That morning, Valentin left South Korea for Japan, so I was the only one left in Seoul. I wanted to visit this place with him, however, we did not have enough time. Well he also did not like such cheesy things. It was our first ‘longest goodbye’ (6 days of being apart) so I felt very emotional the entire day. Looking at couples together and making promises that their love will last longer than time itself was rather depressing that day.

Nonetheless, this place is great for lovers. One of the cutest things there is a “broken” bench sinking towards the middle. It is from a Korean drama, where the guy and girl “sink” towards each other in the middle. Credits: Kimmy

From the popular TV drama, Princess Hour, you can also find the famous Teddy Bear Museum on N Seoul Tower! The museum showcases teddy bears as humans and they are awfully adorable! Credits: Cheryl Chan
