Whisky on rocks with a cigar in hand, that’s my mental image of a boss. Maybe that is a small reason why I started drinking whisky. In Hong Kong, I’ve only found a friend who is very interested in whisky, but we are always so busy and fail to meet up. He wanted to bring me to a whisky bar in Wanchai, but never got realized. Oh well, I hope he will realize his promise of a ticket to California for me.
Alcohol is way cheaper in Hong Kong than Singapore. Oh wait, in fact, everywhere in the world has cheaper alcohol than Singapore. You can get US$0.50/cup beer in Cambodia, HK$8/can beer in Hong Kong and €2.5/pint beer in Germany. It costs way more in Singapore, like 3 times the cost in Hong Kong! Just being realistic here, alcohol is just another reason to travel.
Hong Kong houses many great wine bars and whisky/whiskey bars. Walk along Wyndham Street in Central and you will know what I mean. Here’s 3 whisky stores and you can find more along Lan Kwai Fung. It is, after all, the place for parties.

This bar overlooks Happy Valley’s Racecourse. No matter where you are, as long as you are overlooking Happy Valley’s Racecourse, you will feel a sense of exclusivity. (Alternative: Wooloomooloo Bar in Wanchai.) They serve on rocks with spherical ice cubes and they have a good range of whiskys to choose from. In fact, they are having some promotions right now.

I love this bar. It’s called The Pawn because it used to be a pawnshop and it’s now turned into a fancy restaurant and bar. They serve fancy 3-course meals with great whiskeys to pair. Talking about cigars, The Pawn pairs a cigar for every whisky!

This bar has a friendlier atmosphere than the usual masculine/gentlemen one. The Canny Man is said to be Hong Kong’s only authentic, traditional Scottish bar. Talk about happy days, The Canny Man has a Whiskey Flight Tuesdays every Tuesday at a discount. What a happy place Wan Chai is! Whisky on Tuesdays, Champagne on Wednesdays and Vodka on Thursdays; oh what a great time to be alive.
3 bars for you to check out and do comment/share if you have more! In the meantime, this post is dedicated to all my whisky friends. Please don’t get too addicted 😉
