It’s Christmas and you don’t know what to get your loved one? Well, this silly man decided to get a couple of nights in Westin New York as a Christmas gift. He ran the bubble bath, got us Veuve Clicquot champagne and decorated the place with chocolates! Isn’t he a keeper.
Westin New York Times Square is one of the 3 hotels we stayed at in New York. We also tried The Renwick Hotel New York City, Curio Collection by Hilton and Mondrian Park Avenue.
About Westin New York Times Square
SPG x Westin
Unlike the Hilton Honors membership where you get free breakfast with your booking if you are a gold member, you don’t get the free breakfast here. Nonetheless, you get points if you are with SPG and you can trade that for a US$15 voucher at the bar. You can trade these points for your airlines points, i.e. Avios on British Airways. However, the front desk staff was really lovely and gave us a free upgrade to a larger room on the top floor. Also, if you are a gold SPG member, you get wifi for free! Otherwise, it is payable.
Why Westin NY Times Square
I have to admit, staying in the heart of Times Square definitely has its perks. The metro is literally seconds away. You have all the famous bright shining billboards and famous skyscrapers everywhere. It is also a short walk from everywhere – Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center and Times Square itself.
There is nothing like it snowing outside and you are in bed with 2 sets of warm duvet. At level 33, you could see Times Square gradually getting covered in a thick coat of snow. As much as it is a disturbance to the city, it is beautiful to watch the city turn white.

We stayed in the Premium Deluxe Corner King.
Winter in Westin New York Times Square
Westin is great for all seasons, I am sure. It just adds a little touch to see Times Square being covered in white when it snows in winter. As a person who doesn’t see snow often, I thought that was really precious.
The toilet is much larger than I expected, with a shelf to put your toiletries, many bars to hang different towels a large well-lit mirror and a bath tub. The bath tub is way too shallow for my liking, but it does its job for a warm bath in the cold freezing winter. There is also a rain shower option and a showerhead option. The soap provided is shampoo and conditioner from their spa collection (which is of a low quality, in my opinion) and a small bar of soap for the body. You can ask for body soap at the reception.
The room is surprisingly bigger than I thought. (We got a corner room.) As you walked into the room, there is a walk-in wardrobe with a bath robe. Then followed by the huge bathroom on the right, the bed and a work desk. Our room is actually bigger than the one in the picture by Starwood Hotels!
The location is the best part of Westin NY Times Square. The subway is literally seconds away and you have so many lines to so many places. It takes 10min to get to Upper East Side and 10min to Wall Street. If you are a fan of walking, many landmarks are a stone throw away.
Value of Westin New York Times Square
If you are interested in the typical fancy 5-star chain hotels, this is the place for you. We prefer the luxury boutique hotels that are more unique on their own. Nonetheless, Westin was a great stay. Because we were at a high level, it was beautiful to the light snowfall onto the roads and the yellow cabs driving down the streets.
