Bruges is a tiny little city and if you love walking, you do not need to invest in a bus ticket. However, the city centre is quite far from the train station, and a ticket is needed to bring you to the city centre.

How To Maximise Bus Ticket?
What I did: I bought 1 trip ticket (€3) and 1-day ticket (€6).
How I used it: I used my trip ticket to get me to the city centre from Bruges Train Station. Within the centre, I explored the city on foot. Since Bruges is not a big city, it was easy to get around.
1-day ticket: What did I do with my 1-day ticket? The next day, I used the 1-day ticket to get to Gent, the city close by. De Lijn also operates in Gent, so I could use my ticket in Gent too.
In total, I spent €9 to travel to 2 beautiful cities in Belgium!
