Champagne for breakfast in the swinging bed is always the right way to start your day. From homemade gluten free pastries to eggs benedict breakfast set and ham (salami) with cheese, it was the best breakfast in the entire trip. Vale and I were blessed enough to stay in this place as we sat in our swinging bed while having breakfast.
Breakfast area is at Kroya. They serve breakfast of the highest quality with champion western American and Asian cuisine. You can choose from the assortment of buffet choices or order from the menu like Eggs Benedict with Hollande Sauce. For the boy who did not have ham to eat for a month, this was a plate of heaven for him.
So, Valentin and I decided to go to Cambodia by taking the bus from Bangkok. We did not book an accommodation, as usual. While exploring the city, we stumbled upon this beautiful majestic looking haven. Long story short, hello Shinta Mani, our accommodation for that night before heading back to Bangkok! Shinta Mani is a high end boutique hotel. A 5-star standard that position itself as a 4.5 star. It has a total of 39 guest rooms, ranging from supreme, deluxe to deluxe living.
Shinta Mani is split into 2: Shinta Mani Club and Resort. The club is more for couples while the resort was more for families. So, we stayed in the club. We love Shinta Mani because of it’s convenient location to the city centre; aka Pub Street and Central Market, it is also far enough from the Pub Street to have some peace and quiet time.
Shinta Mani has impeccable service. We were not registered as guests yet, however we were served with cold wet towels to refresh ourselves from the summer’s heat. The service staff was also extremely friendly and shared all the good places to eat with Valentin. Note, we were not even official guests then!
Our Room: Deluxe Living. Upon entering, we were greeted by a huge sitting area. The theme of the hotel is black, white and orange. Orange reflected Buddhism in Cambodia and monks wore orange robes. It is also the color of the country.
The sofa could easily double up as a comfortable bed. I can only imagine if our friends were here. We would party so hard and not have to squeeze in the tiny apartment in Wanchai :p
That’s the end of our fighting for bed space and blanket snatching. And the bed is so comfortable. One of the best nights during the whole month of travelling. Bonus? Ok, Valentin did not take the picture but as you lie on the bed and look up, it is a super lovely painting of different temples in Angkor Wat. There’s also a nightlight that illuminates it as you drift to sleep. Fresh lotus flowers being folded every day, along side with fresh fruits. There was a dining table/area for our room. I cut them up for us and we chilled in bed to enjoy everything.
Lifestyle Accommodation in Cambodia
The best part of Shinta Mani is the lifestyle environment. Drinks and fresh cold fruits the beat the summer heat as we tanned by the infinity pool. I read the magazines while Vale played with this boring iPad. Then we spent some time in the pool till more people arrived and we went back upstairs.
Shinta Mani’s Cause
What is unique about Shinta Mani is that it supports the local community. There is only 1 non-Khmer in the whole company. They also have very high job retention as most staff were with them since day 1, 10 years ago. It provides education, classrooms and on the job training in the service sector. In 10 years, they have trained 253 students for free. The students were then equipped to support their families back in the villages.
They also do offer free interest loans for small business start ups to encourage people to start their own businesses. The loan is subjected to the skills, however it gives the locals an opportunity. Lastly, Shinta Mani offers free mobile medical clinic. The mobile clinic would drive to the countryside every month to provide free treatment.
Shinta Mani needs just $0.5million to support the foundation to give opportunities to the locals and equip them with skills. YOU are helping the foundation every time you stay with Shinta Mani! A percentage of your room would go into the foundation. Guests could also sponsor students if they wish.
Thank you Shinta Mani for having us! A hotel that position themselves as a 4.5 star but serves its customers like 5.5 stars. A hotel that has a staff community like a family, it really feels like home.
