Are you also a frequent traveller? Well, then you might face the same problem as me: meals on the go. We all travel so much, sometimes it is difficult to find proper meals between travel. So here are simple and easy to make meals on-the-go during your travels.
High Fats and Protein
My easiest meal on-the-go is a big bag of mixed nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. Throw your favourite food in a ziplock bag and put them in your carry-on. It’s compact, no preparation, full of protein, good fats, and micronutrients. It’s also good for all types of weather and temperature!
Mixed nuts & dried fruits: almonds, walnuts, pine nuts, pecan, hazelnuts, dried figs, dried berries, dates and sunflower seeds.
Trevellers Tips: buy them separately and mix them by yourself. It’s cheaper and you get to customize the flavours you want!
Crunchy & Munchy
This is my on-to-go meal for long flights. Firstly, some flights don’t include meals in their basic package (i.e. Norwegian Air). Secondly, some flights have the worst food for economy class. So I rather bring my own. These are great as a healthy snack, fills you up and provides the vitamins you need.
Crunchy & Munchy: celery sticks & carrot sticks with mash avocado or peanut butter.
I usually get half a bag of celery and baby carrots. Eating them with mash avocado or peanut butter adds the flavor, but you don’t have to do it.
Cheat Meal: Airport Lounges
This is cheating because it only works for flights. When you get to an airport lounge, you get to choose from a selection of food choices. During long flights, I like to take a banana, apple or sandwich with me on the flight. Airport lounge food is fresher (and tastes better) than food on the plane, let’s be honest.

Check if there are security checks before going on the plane. If there are no checks, you can bring liquid! Aka, bring a can of beer into the plane just because.
Trevellers Tips: if you pass through security when entering departure hall, you most likely do NOT have to pass through security again when going into the plane. For example, the UK’s security clearance happens when you enter the departure hall (aka you can bring your beer in). Singapore’s security clearance is before entering the plane (aka you CANNOT bring your beer in).
Other Options: Energy Balls
I love energy balls. They are delicious, healthy and great. I recommend MAKING them instead of buying. The ones you buy are usually high in sugar, so they make you sleepy after eating them.
Energy balls are really easy to make. I’ll share a few recipes here. But in general, you need these:
- Some nuts/oats/coconut (something as a base)
- Some dates/apricots/peanut butter (something sweet and sticky)
- Some dried berries/mashed banana (something sweet)
- Some lemon juice (something liquid, or it’s too dry)
- Pinch of salt (to enhance the flavouring)
- Optional: some chia seed, vanilla essence, chocolate chips, cocoa powder
Then, blend them in a food processor, roll them into a bite-sized ball and eat them!
