So I recently found this amazing travel hack for frequent travellers when I was in London. No one has talked about it yet, so let me share it.
You’re a frequent traveller, new in this city. There isn’t enough time but you would like to see the “must see” landmarks. Being a frequent traveller, you also want to explore the “local secrets”. But how in the world do you do BOTH with very little time?
Short Answer: City Bus Tour
The short answer in 1 sentence: get on a tour bus to learn about the main tourist sites, then pick of the places to explore a “local secret”.
- Get on one of the hop-on-hop-off tour buses. They bring you around the city and show you the main attractions.
- Make sure you do a full round, so you have seen all the main sights.
- Choose one of the areas that you’d really like to explore. Either for the history, environment there or simply just because.
- Go to that specific stop and explore the area! There is a “local secret” everywhere in the city. You just need to find an area for it.
Travel Hack for Frequent Travellers: Long Answer
The tour buses bring you around the main tourist area, provide you with details on the history and share some fun facts. That is a brilliant way to finish the “must see” landmarks aspect of your travel. This gives you more time to explore and discover the local hidden secrets, like what frequent travellers do! It usually takes 1-2 hours, depending on how big the city is. I only recommend this for big cities. Small cities are tiny enough to explore on foot.
Being a frequent traveller myself, I always find a huge struggle between seeing the “must see” landmarks and exploring the hidden local places. Time is limited, so I need to ration. Then, I finally tried a tour bus and it blew my mind. I can do both, spending just 1-2 hours on the tourist-y thing and the rest of the time exploring!
Ps: I do the tourist-y things because people always ask me about both the main landmarks and the hidden secrets. I have to know both! Also, some landmarks are too gorgeous to ignore. For instance, the Tower Bridge in London!
But It’s So Expensive! Or Not…..?
Okay, good travel hack. But let’s be real. Those type of tour buses is SO EXPENSIVE. I hate how expensive it is. For £32, I rather take the tube to visit the Tower Bridge and learn more information.
Here’s The Good News!
But guess what! I just found out that Megabus UK is starting their own Megasightseeing Tour, starting from just £1. That is less than a ticket on the tube (subway). Now I can spend 2 hours learning about the main “must see” landmarks in London, pick one of the places they said and explore it!
Hint: They pass through Bank Station. It is one of my favourite places in London. You have the Bank of England in the old classical architecture and plenty of gorgeous bars and pubs!
