Kuala Lumpur is the hub of Malaysia Airlines and no doubt, that is translated in its lounges. The KLIA Satellite Platinum Lounge is not fancy like the KLIA Golden Lounge, but it will do just fine. The Golden Lounge is under renovation from Oct 2017. That means that everyone is cramped into this KLIA Platinum lounge. They cordon off a small segment for First Class passengers and MH Platinum customers only. The new Golden Lounge will open in March 2018.
Dining in KLIA Platinum Lounge
The open buffet includes hot sandwiches, Malay dishes with rice, a noodle soup station, salad bar and pastries. There is no menu for hot food like in the Golden Lounge, and the food is averagely decent.
Thankfully, just across the buffet is a bar area. They serve different types of cocktails and alcohol. You can ask for champagne, although it is not advertised. They appear to hide the bubbles in the fridge, and you only get it if you ask. Unlike the Golden Lounge, the staff do not go around constantly to refill your glass. You are lucky if they refilled it. Alternatively, you can get a new glass at the bar.
Sitting Area in KLIA Platinum Lounge
The lounge is pretty huge. You have a family area at the back of the lounge, including a small indoor play area for children under 7. There are also long sofas there for families.
Closer to the dining area, you have sitting area for meals, long table to do your work and comfortable couches at the bar.
Near the large window panes, you have comfortable sitting with the view of the runway and your plane.
Charging is found at the sitting near the window and the long tables.
Sleeping Beds in KLIA Platinum Lounge
There is an area sectioned off for sleeping. Unlike the Golden Lounge with an individual room for you to rest, this is separated into female and males. Inside, you have 3 laying beds (similar to the First Class beds) with a side table. You place your boarding pass on the side table, so the staff is alert on your boarding time.
The downside is that there is no separators, so other females entering can see you laying there.
