Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is something you cannot miss when you are in East Java! By plane, train, car or on foot, we will get you to this amazing place. The best thing to do is to watch sunrise there. It is easy and simple for everyone. For the fitter ones, you can hike the volcanic crater. For the real trevellers, you can spend a night on the mountain and stay there for 2D1N!

Getting Into Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park

Easiest Method: Flying In

Fly into Surabaya International Airport. If you are flying domestic, you can take Lion Air, Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia AirAsia, etc. If you are flying International, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, AirAsia and EVA Air flies there.

You can also fly into Malang: Abdul Rachman Saleh airport.

Local Method: Taking The Train

This option is only available if you are coming to Bromo domestically. Take the local train from your city to Pronolinggo station. At Probolinggo station, take Berno bus for 5,000 rupiahs to the bus terminal. From the bus terminal, take the Berno bus to Cemoro Lawang for 35,000 rupiahs. It takes 1.5h to get there. It brings you into the village of Cemoro Lawang.

Cheapest Method: Long Distance Bus

The cheapest option is to take the long distance bus locally. It is a lot cheaper but it takes a lot of time as well. Take the long distance bus from any of the main cities. Take bus to Probolinggo bus station and take Berno bus to Cemoro Lawang.

Getting To Sunrise Viewpoint

People usually visit the volcano during sunrise. It is really easy to get to any of the viewpoints when you are in the region. My friend even drew me a map! You have several options to take: a car, motor-taxi or hike.

Safest Route: 4×4 Car

If you prefer the safe method, hire a van or small car. Or you can hire a 4×4 car to take you to the viewpoint. Taking this method will bring you to the most touristic viewpoint: Mt Panajakan.

Most Flexible Route: Motor-taxi, ojek

I took this option. You basically hire an ojek for half a day to bring you around. I say that it is more flexible because you have the freedom to tell him here you’d like to go. Seruni Viewpoint was the place that we went to. A motorbike is also more exhilarating because going down the slopes in the village with the sun risen is a very different experience. It is also flexible because you can go to anywhere you’d like to, and maybe even hike less because the bikes can go up onto smaller terrains.

Hardcore Route: Hike

With your legs, you can go to anywhere and everywhere as long as your feet takes you there. I saw many people who hiked up from their hostel in the base of the national park. You simply follow the main road and walk all the way up to any of the viewpoints. (Learn how to hike for free!)

Note: you can pay a small fee to the horses to bring you to certain distances too!

      Hi Jorena,

You can try out the https://www.go-jek.com/ app. I used it in Surabaya and it was very easy to use! Alternatively, Uber offers motorcycle options too. You can check it out.
If you are using Uber, use this uber code to get your first ride free! Uber code: lisat570.
      Enjoy Cemoro Lawang!
