The other islands of Bali are definitely worth exploring. You will love the crystal clear water and beautiful nature. That is why people are in love with Bali. They require some time to travel, but everything is worth it! Famous Bali islands are Gili Trawangan, Nusa Penida and Lombok.
Buy your speedboat ticket from Bali directly to Gili Trawangan in advance. Buy an early morning ticket and make sure to be there on time. They will often cancel the later speedboats if the water gets too choppy and you don’t want to get stuck taking a ferry to Lombok then boat from Lombok to Gili. The ferry route will end up taking close to 10 hours when you include the shuttles from the ports while the speedboat option is 90min and takes you directly to Gili. If you’re staying at a hotel in Gili ask them to book you the speedboat tickets as they will get you the best rates.
Also take a speed boat (always speed boat, never the commuter boat) to nearby island Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Ceningan. Very few cars on the island which makes it really easy to navigate on a moped. Look for Dream Beach and Secret Beach on Ceningan!
Also, snorkel on Nusa Penida. You’ll need a boat to get to Manta Point to see the Mantas. Use the fastboat service to get to the island. You can rent a scooter or hire a driver to explore the island. The roads are extremely rough and underdeveloped so it caused for a very bumpy ride.
Visit Angel’s Billabong/Broken Beach, Keleking Beach (T-Rex Cliff), and Crystal Bay. All of them are absolute must-sees except for Crystal Bay which was rather dirty and overcrowded. Beware of the waves because it can be really strong and you might be pulled away by the current.
People usually visit Lombok for 2 reasons: quieter beaches than Bali or to hike Mt Agung.
Book your accommodation with one of the nice & affordable resorts in Lombok!
Mt Agung takes 3-4 days to hike. Almost everyone does a sunrise hike, guides are not mandatory nor pushed. Buy a ticket and up you go. There are no camping grounds above 2,500-ish km mark, it’s all steep afterwards. If you can do some rock climbing, you can go to the real summit at 3100m as well, although you take a massive risk.
Lovina is up north of Bali. It is a quiet little paradise and you can see wild dolphins in the morning!
Stay at Pondok Wisata Grya Sari
It is a little paradise-like place, hidden away in the island. There is a jungle 10km outside of Lovina, right next to the hot springs.
