In Southeast Asia, it’s basically beach vacation 24/7. This is the only post you need for your packing guide for a beach vacation!
As the full moon hangs at its peak, the city roars alive. The full moon party is one of the MUST-GO parties in Thailand. It’s a beach party that happens every full moon. Beach + party + crazy people is the formula for a great event. Oh, of course, not forgetting booze.
Great Beaches in SE Asia
Beaches in Thailand are the best. South of Thailand is home to the few amazing beaches like Phuket, Krabi and Koh Samui. The other beautiful beaches in Asia also include Palawan and Boracay in Philippines, Pulau Tioman and Sipadan in Malaysia and Bali or Nongsa in Indonesia.
There are several types of water sports activities in these destinations like kayaking, sailing and snorkeling. Thus, it’s important to prepare the right type of clothes for your beach vacation!
Beach Vacation Packing Checklist for Ladies
My favourite beachwear is bikini. One can never get enough of bikinis. The best part of summer is the ability to wear bikinis everywhere because they match with everything so easily!
There are several types of swimsuits; biknis, tankinis, one-piece suits. There are articles saying different body types suit different swimsuits but I’d say just wear whatever you want. Who cares what people think.
As long as you feel comfortable and happy in your own skin, wearing anything does not make a difference. Another popular bikini nowadays are the crochet swimwear. They are very suitable for your beach vacation and you can achieve the bohemian look with ease.
Trevellers Tips: I also highly recommend you to bring bikini sets when you travel because they’re light and dry quickly. It is more functional than a bra.
Dresses, tank tops, denim shorts.
- Dresses are perfect for the beach, like light cotton summer dresses.
- Maxi dresses look like you put in a lot of effort to look elegant. It can also be a dress for exploring the city!
- Tank tops and denim shorts are the most common beach wear.
If you are going for a chill resort beach vacation, I’d suggest you wear more dresses. If you are going to do water activities, t-shirts help to protect you from the sun and shorts make moving around much easier.
Think Coachella. Try and mix up with some long cardigans that are light and give some cover-up too. With the wind, you can take tons of beautiful bohemian style pictures!
Lastly, some girls want to play water activities without getting too tan, or some sports do require more coverage like surfing and diving. A rash-guard would be good, especially the long sleeve ones. It protects you from the UV rays and prevent sunburnt.
It is also highly recommended if you will be out in the sea for a long time. E.g. surfing!
Beach Vacation Packing Checklist for Men
Men’s life is always easy, you only have 1 beach wear; the swim/water shorts. Ripcurl has a great selection as their shorts dry fast and look great even for casual wear by the beach. Drying fast is really an important issue, especially when you are travelling and need your items to dry as soon as possible.
Although swim short are now very common, some still prefer trunks. Just remember that underwear are never an alternative for trunks!
Shirts are important for other water activities. A rash-guard is great for surfers, snorkelers or kayakers. The material dries fast and fits snuggly. Also, a muscle tank top and t-shirt is also great to wear on your beach vacation. Alternatively, a beach vacation is time for you to show off those nice abs that you have been training in the gym since forever!
Other Things to Include in Your Bag
I always enjoy a good book or magazine by the beach. A beach vacation is never complete without a nice quiet time on the beach, listening to the waves crashing on the shore, getting baked under the sun and reading a good book!
If you are not staying in a resort, I strongly recommend that you should bring a nice large beach towel or shawl. Simply lay the towel or shawl on the warm sand when you find a good spot.
Footwear to bring would be waterproof sandals or slippers. Unless you are thinking of going to a fancy restaurant, you can leave all the beautiful stilettos at home. I would also recommend a pair of good waterproof/covered shoes for water activities.
Lastly, and most importantly, a beach vacation will not be complete without your waterproof camera or waterproof phone case! Waterproof cameras are now very common, and you can also bring your Go-Pro along with you. This is extremely important, especially if you are at one of the beautiful clear water beaches in the world! Alternatively, waterproof case for your phone is another option.
