Convenient locations can greatly reduce the travel time and transportation costs. Looking at the wider scope, it will be more practical, since time is a huge factor for most trevellers. The locations are divided into Pathum Wan, Sukhumvit and Khao San. You usually find more luxurious accomodation in Pathu Wan, a good mix in Sukhumvit and cheaper options in Khao San. If you are finding your best accommodations based on budget, you can check out the Accommodation By Budget Guide.
Pathum Wan is my personal favourite area thanks to the close proximity to the city centre. Most shops are also walking distance from the hotels, so it makes everything convenient and easy to get around. There are lots of street food outside the hotels, and you can grab a tuktuk (motorized bike) or cabs very easily.
Novotel Bangkok Platinum Pratunam is one of the best hotels I have stayed in Bangkok. It is located beside Platinum Mall, making retail therapy complete with 5-star service standards. Upon entering the room, you will be greeted with a huge bed. I could not help but jumped into the bed and sank into a dreamlike state. It was impossible to get out of bed. They also serve an international selection of cuisine for breakfast, with a fancy presentation. Get a hearty breakfast and start your day shopping!

If you are interested in the city centre but do not want to stay too near because of the insane traffic, I would suggest the area between around Sukhumvit. There, you have more apartment-style hotels and serviced apartments. You also have more affordable options. It makes it great for a family trip or trip with a group of friends. It is also close to the city centre, just a short ride away.
Soi means “street”. There are many Soi in Sukhumvit and it is a huge place. Areas 15 & 16 are where the pubs and bars were. You can also find one of the top ten favourite rooftop bars in Soi 11.
At Urbana Langsuan Bangkok, there is a rooftop pool over Bangkok’s skyline. Not only so, there is an indoor sauna room with many facilities. We booked a one-room apartment with kitchen and living room then, and it was amazing. However, do note that they do not provide free WiFi. You can get the Happy Tourist Sim Card upon your arrival in Bangkok and enjoy a week of unlimited 3G!

Khao San is the backpacker’s area. Here is where you can find the highest concentration of backpackers from Europe and America. It is also quite a hipster place, with unique bars and cafes. It is mainly guesthouses at lower prices there. You can also shop there as there are street markets along the roads.
Happy hour happens very often in Khao San too, and they can start as early as noon! During the hot summer days, head over to Khao San for their happy hour and chill over a drink. You can also get brunch in Khao San after waking up with a hangover from a wild night of partying.
