There are so many places to travel. Overlooking New York in the Empire State Building, making a wish under the Eiffel Tower or enjoy the beauty of the neon night-lights in Hong Kong.

But if trevelling is more about finding new places, seeing new sights and exploring the world, this post is for you! Here’s 15 secret destinations for your next plane ticket.

  1. Haiku Stairs. Oahu, Hawaii.

First on the 15 secret destinations, it is so dangerous that you have guards patrolling around. Also known as the stairways to heaven, this trail might actually bring you to heaven.

It is so dangerous that it is illegal, but if you’re brave enough, you can hike up the dangerous (and legal) way! However, Valentine’s Day 2015 sent a storm and destroyed most of the stairway.

  1. Capuchin Crypt. Rome, Italy

“One of the most horrifying images in all of Christendom” according to Authur Formmer, this place is hidden beneath the church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini in Rome. You will see skeletons of 3,700 bodies piling up against the sides. Just the pictures alone gave me the chills.

  1. Lofoten Isalnds. Norway

This secret place is unknown to usual tourists and is a perfect place for those who love nature. You get to see the Fjords and if you’re lucky, even the Northern Lights too!

  1. Jericoacoara. Brazil.

Clear blue clear waters, white sand dunes and tropical warmth, this is the place to go. You need to add it on your bucket list.

  1. The Twelve Apostles. Victoria, Australia.

This place is known only in the Victoria regions. There, you will witness the creation of Mother Nature some 10-20 million years ago. The limestone erodes with age to form beautiful caves and cliffs. Viewing them at sunset or sunrise is the best.

  1. Rangiroa. The French Polynesia

If scuba diving is your thing, Rangiroa is your place. Scuba dive with turtles, dolphins, sharks, huge manta rays and hammerhead sharks! The clear waters make everything like what I imagine heaven to be.

  1. Rotorua. New Zealand

Bubbling mud pools, geysers and hot pools are what you can find in the corner of the Earth, New Zealand. There is so much thermal activity there that the ground is boiling! Sometimes you wonder if this is still planet Earth.

  1. Kashmir. Dal Lake, India

Kashmir is the Switzerland of Asia. The snow-capped Himalayan Mountains are a distinct feature there as it surrounds the city. Boathouses are a common sight from hotels. You can also find the highest gondola, Gulmarg Gondola, in the world there.

  1. Huashan. Xian, China

Imagine walking on a plank with no ropes, just your hands wrapped around some chains while you are hundreds of meters above land. That’s Huashan for you. The wooden plank is at the edge of the mountain and only wide enough to have your both feet standing there. This is definitely not for the faint heart! This is the world’s dangerous trail. Other than a good view, you will find a quaint teahouse there. If anyone goes there, I’d assume that either you love risking your life or really really love drinking a cup of great tea.

  1. Enchanted River. Surigao Del Sur, Philippines

This river is called enchanted river because no one has ever reached the bottom! It is also 50% salt water and 50% fresh water, so you can see 2 types of fishes there.

This place is also so mysterious that it has its own Hinatuan River Myth. Its origins are still unknown and legends say that it is created by fairies and pixies!

  1. Vrelo Cave. Matke Canyon, near Skopje Macedonia

Possibly the top few world’s deepest underwater cavern, this place is home to the world’s oldest artificial lake too. It’s definitely not your typical touristic spot, and more suitable for people who are up for adventures. Divers will love this place because there is an underwater entrance below!

  1. Balos Lagoon. Crete, Greece

Blue clear water is a common sight. But can you imagine pink sand? You can even camp there for free, but be prepared with food as there aren’t any restaurants there. The crystal-clear shallow water makes swimming an experience like no other.

  1. El-DJem amphitheater. Tunisia

Hold your horses. Yes, this is Tunisia’s El-Djem and not Rome’s Colosseum. A 3:5 version of the Colosseum, this beautiful place is unknown outside Tunisia with significantly less tourist. Most Arabic music concerts are held there.

These 15 secret destinations are places that are more unusual to visit. How many of them have you been? Do share and comment on the other must go places!
